What to click, in which order, in each app.

In the order of a show

One app after another

Each app has its own role. Here are the useful settings, in the order of a show. The names in quotes are the names of the buttons in the apps.

Step · 1

Velvet Visualizer

  1. Nothing to plug in for the preview. It works with no gear at all: a 3D preview on the Mac.
  2. Import your MaestroDMX show: File ▸ “Import a MaestroDMX file…”, then pick the JSON file exported from your Maestro. The fixtures, their addresses and the groups are placed for you.
  3. To see the real light: in MaestroDMX (version 1.5 or later), turn on Art-Net output. The Mac and the box must be on the same network.
  4. Turn on the “Live DMX” switch in the toolbar. When the light is green, the 3D view follows what the box sends.

EzQuiel

EzQuiel adjusts the sound of the room, on iPhone or iPad (App Store). It is built for Allen & Heath CQ mixers.

  • The link with the lights: the mixer must send sound to the box's line input, or the box hears nothing.

Step · 3

Velvet Show

  1. Import your cues: in the settings, “Import MaestroDMX → OSC Library” reads a MaestroDMX show or backup file and creates the OSC events.
  2. Set up OSC: “OSC Host” is the box's address. The port is 7672, the one MaestroDMX uses out of the box. You have nothing to change, unless you changed the box's port.
  3. Test: “OSC Test (raw)” sends a test message to the box, without touching your cues.
  4. Place your cues on the timeline of the song, at the right moment. Velvet Show fires them over MIDI or OSC.
  5. Velvet Remote (iPhone, iPad) works as a remote, and automatic playback can chain the songs.

Step · 4

Velvet Light DJ

  1. Open the settings (the third tab). “Address for cues (OSC)” is the box's address. “OSC port” is 7672 by default. “Address to read the cue names” lets the app read the cues of your box.
  2. Allow Accessibility when macOS asks: that is what lets the app follow the position in djay. Without it, the app counts the time on its own.
  3. Turn on “Auto lights”. It starts paused: nothing is sent until you turn it on.
  4. Start a track in djay. The app picks the cue that fits. To change it, use the “Mood for this track” menu.
  5. Do not use Velvet Show at the same time: both would send cues to the box.

Velvet Light DJ is made for MaestroDMX only.
